ExcursionsIn the afternoon of Wednesday, August 21st we will organize a visit to NeuroSpin (see details below). You have to specify at registration if you would like to join us. This visit is sponsored by CEA and free of charge for all the participants to the conference. Excursion to NeuroSpin: Visit the laboratory of the highest magnetic field horizontal MRI clinical scanner: NeuroSpin ! NeuroSpin is a research center built to develop and validate neuroimaging using ultra-high Magnetic Field headed by Dr. Stanislas Dehaene who is also a professor at the College de France. It is located inside of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) in Saclay close to Paris and was opened on January 1st 2007. The center is recognized as a large infrastructure for biomedical imaging, such as the CERN in Geneve. It is a shared imaging facility with unique imaging devices: 7T, 11.7T and 17T horizontal MRI preclinical scanners and 3T, 7T and now 11.7T clinical MRI scanners ! If you are interested to visit this laboratory, we will organize an excursion directly after the conference program on Wednesday, August 21st, 2019. The visit, including transportation time, will take approximately three hours. Note: A Photo ID will be required. Other Paris attractions: Paris has a wide variety of famous and beautiful sights to discover and rediscover. All the suggestions below are easily accessible from the conference site using public transportation. Climb the Eiffel Tower ! Visiting the iconic symbol of Paris usually ranks as the number one thing to do for most tourists. Towering more than 1,000 feet (300 meters) high in the Champ de Mars park, this iron structure was constructed for the 1889 World Exposition. One of the world’s most photographed tourist attractions, the Eiffel Tower presents an excellent photography opportunity for both day and night times. Visitors can ride the elevator to see incredible views of the city or dine in one of the two fine restaurants that are situated within the tower. We recommend that you buy your ticket in advance as it is likely there will be a lot of tourists in this season, check the Eiffel Tower website. Get lost in the Louvre Museum ! Topping the list of the world’s most visited museums, the Louvre Museum is located in the Louvre Palace with its signature glass pyramid marking its entrance. Housing a collection of more than 1 million objects, the Louvre boasts some of the world’s most famous art works such as Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa,” Michelangelo’s “Dying Slave” and the Greek statue, “Venus of Milo.” Other popular exhibits include the extravagant apartments of Napoleon III, the ancient Code of Hammurabi, Egyptian antiquities and paintings by masters like Rembrandt and Rubens. But if you want a smaller and almost as nice museum as the Louvre, why don't you try Musee d'Orsay, Centre Pompidou, Musee de l'Orangerie or Musee Rodin? Go listen to the bells of Notre-Dame ! No trip to Paris could be complete without a visit to the world famous Notre Dame cathedral. Standing more than 400 feet (120 meters) high with two lofty towers and a spire, this marvelous church is considered a supreme example of French Gothic architecture. A tour of this 13th century masterpiece allows visitors to admire the awe-inspiring rose windows, Gothic carvings, beautiful sculptures and a collection of relics. Go for a walk in the Montmartre area ! Montmartre is a district full of authentic charm, famous for the Sacré-Coeur basilica, the Moulin Rouge and a magnificent view of Paris. For the price of a metro ticket, visitors can take the funicular to the top ofMontmartre hill. More sporty types can climb the 222 steps leading up through the Louise Michel public garden Other interesting sights These are just main ideas but if you already know these very famous sites, there is also the Pantheon, Opera Garnier, Pere Lachaise cemetry, the catacombs, Champs-Elysees, etc. Enjoy !
